Minister for Finance and Commercial Tax Jayant Malaiya said that no State can progress without revenue. The Commercial Tax Department has played an important role in feats, which Madhya Pradesh has attained in various sectors in the recent years.
Remarkable increase registered in the State’s revenue is a result of dedicated efforts of officers and employees of the department. He further mentioned that the state government will take complete care of the interest on officers and employees of the department and every possible facility will be provided to them.
Malaiya was addressing the Grand Convention of Gazzetted Officers Association of Commercial tax Department in Bhopal on Saturday. He also released a souvenir ‘Karishini’ of the union on the occasion.
He mentioned that the revenue collection of Commercial Tax Department was about Rs 3,952 crore in 2003-2004, which has gone up to Rs 27,318 crore in 2016-17. Seven fold increase has been registered in tax collection. Deliberating on State’s budget, Malaiya has informed that priority has been given to the public welfare programmes by the state government. The budget of the state has become about Rs 1.87 lakh crore. He stated that departmental officers have performed excellently to implement GST by following their duties.
Principal Secretary Commercial Tax Department Manoj Shrivastava said that tax revenue collection will become above Rs 30,000 crore in the year 2017-18. Income from excise has not affected despite the guidelines of the Supreme Court. He directed the officers for collection according to the target. Commissioner, Commercial tax Department Raghvendra Singh has informed that over 1100 seminar have been conducted by the departmental officers to spread awareness of GST among the traders and common men. He further informed that the performance of commercial tax department was excellent in the entire country for migration of businessmen into GST. He suggested officers to work together for achieving first 3 positions in the entire country as regard to the growth rate in tax collection.
