Second in the list of high-spending clubs was champions Chelsea, who forked out £179m on six new players.

Manchester United spent £147m on just four players, whilst Everton, forced to replace Ronald Koeman with Sam Allardyce after a dismal start to the season, recorded an expenditure of £142m.
