Hospital lab technician arrested for land fraud

BHUBANESWAR: Police on Saturday arrested a laboratory technician on charges of land fraud. The accused, Bipin Bihari Das of Bolagarh, was working in a private hospital under Saheed Nagar police limits in 2014. During his service period, Das started a real estate firm Krishna Promoters and promoted the firm among the doctors of the hospital stating that the company will provide plots to them in the city. The laboratory technician collected about `92 lakh in 2015 from hospital staff promising plots in the city. He had also shown a plot in Patia to one of the investors and took advance money from him.

Das also took the help of one Abdul Kalam Khan to con the investors. Abdul claimed that he was the owner of the plot in Patia and the duo submitted forged land documents to one of the investors. As Das failed to execute the deal, the investors became suspicious and found out that they were cheated by Das.
The city police had earlier arrested Abdul in connection with the case. Though Das assured the investors that he will return their money, he fled away.

At least two other persons, including a woman from Balasore, approached Saheed Nagar police recently alleging that Das had taken money from them for providing plots in the city, but did not execute the deal.Police said, the hospital’s other staff have also lodged cheating complaints with them against Das. “Das was wanted in two cases and we nabbed him recently. He was produced in a court on Saturday and investigation is on,” Saheed Nagar police said.
