RANCHI: Chief minister Raghubar Das on Saturday announced that 69 new colleges would be set up in the state soon.
He also said to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on January 12 next year, the state government would provide employment to 25,000 youths. "The state government is committed to bear the cost of higher education of students belonging to SC, ST categories and backward class," Das said.
The chief minister made the announcement at the ABVP's ongoing 63rd national convention here. Nearly 3,000 students and ABVP supporters from across the country have gathered for the four-day event, which will conclude on Sunday.
"Strengthening the academic infrastructure of the state is our priority and in the last three years, we have set up four new universities and the number of seats available in higher education institutes has increased by 50,000 during the same period," the chief minister said.
He added, "We also plan to set up 69 new colleges. Along with academic degrees, we are focusing on skill development for youths to help them get more employment opportunities."
At the event, which had cricketer Suresh Raina as special guest, Das called upon the ABVP members to help spread literacy in villages and in their neighbourhoods. "ABVP is the world's biggest nationalistic organization and we have to use our huge resources for nation building. We have to join forces to educate the nation. I urge you to spread your passion for nationalism across the nation."
Das also called upon the youth to learn new languages and highlighted his government's plans to set up Japanese language schools in Ranchi University and other institutes
