A maiden over from Ashwin, both the batsmen are playing for the end of the day here. Light meters being constantly checked and updated here. SL 123/3 after 36 overs

16:32(IST)

Shami going for the yorkers here, Chandimal does well to dig a couple of them out. He also gets a boundary as Shami strays onto the pad for once. SL 123/3 after 35 overs.

16:29(IST)

Ashwin continues to bowl from the other end, he concedes just 3 runs from that over. 3 singles for him. SL 120/3.

16:24(IST)

Kohli more than happy to bring back the pacers here, the light is also a concern here as umpires get their light meters out. Shami also getting the ball to reverse swing a bit but nothing menacing as yet. SL 117/3 after 33 overs.

16:22(IST)

Angelo Mathews registers his second Test fifty in this series and 29th overall. It’s been 828 days since he converted a fifty to a century in Test.

16:18(IST)

Jadeja finally stems the flow of runs here, India bowl a maiden over after some time. SL 114/3

16:14(IST)

Virat Kohli certainly not happy as Ashwin continues to leak runs. This time Chandimal goes on the backfoot and hits it past backward point for a boundary. Sri Lanka certainly playing in ODI mode here, SL 114/3.

16:10(IST)

Sri Lanka getting boundaries in every over now, Chandimal now steps out and whips Jadeja for a boundary. SL move onto 107/3 here.

16:07(IST)

50! Angelo Mathews reaches 50 in some style, welcomes Ashwin into the attack with two back-to-back sixes. Comes down the track and hoinks one over long off and then over mid wicket. Finally, Mathews lives up to the billing of being Sri Lanka's most promising Test player!

16:02(IST)

FOUR and FOUR! Mathews gets two back to back boundaries off Ishant Sharma, first off the pads and towards the fine leg boundary. Then gets his stride forward and times it perfectly past the mid on fielder for a boundary. SL 91/3 after 26 overs.

15:58(IST)

Jadeja continues to rush through his overs, concedes just two runs there. SL 83/3 after 26 overs.

15:52(IST)

Ishant Sharma comes back into the attack in place of Mohammad Shami and he impresses straight away. Beautiful wrist position and beats Mathews twice in the over. He certainly looks unplayable here.

15:50(IST)

Perara’s 42 in this innings is his best score in this series. Excluding that 42 he has scored 20 runs in 4 innings and has 2 ducks.

His average is 15.08 and has one fifty in his last 13 Test innings.

15:48(IST)

Another tight over from Jadeja. concedes just 1 run from that. Mathews moves to 30, SL 81/3

15:44(IST)

Shami certainly bowling in with pace here, almost gets Mathews with a short ball which surprises the Sri Lankan batsman. Luckily for him, Vijay fails to spot the ball and it falls away from the fielder. Chandimal too getting off the mark with a fine clip off his pads. SL 80/3 after 22 overs here/

15:39(IST)

Jadeja completes the over in almost 1 minute, incredibly quick and its a maiden over as well. Chandimal yet to get off the mark here, SL 77/3 after 21 overs.

15:37(IST)

Shami continues from the other end, and bowls a tight over. concedes just 2 runs from that one. Sri Lanka move onto 77/3 after 20 overs.

15:31(IST)

WICKET! Jadeja gets the breakthrough and a superb review from India, Perera is struck right in front of the wicket. Llong gives it not out but India go for the review, its a punt which is successful for Kohli. Wicket for India at a crucial moment in the game here. SL 75/3.

15:26(IST)

Shami comes back to the crease and gives away 8 runs. Mathews is scoring some quick runs here even if all are not as good to look at. Runs count when you have a 500-plus target to bat down. The first one is a firm push and the second an edge through the empty space in the slip cordon. Sri Lanka's score reads 75/2 after 18 overs

15:19(IST)

5 runs from Ishant over here as Dilruwan picks another boundary on the off side. This time the ball goes through the slip cordon as Dilruwan hangs the bat and gets a boundary. Sri Lanka's score reads 63/2 after 16 overs

15:13(IST)

5 runs from the Jadeja over as Dilruwan is happy to pick the boundaries on the off side. He has not run too much and has relied more on the boundaries to get things moving here. Sri Lanka's score reads 58/2 after 15 overs with a partnership striking here between Dilruwan and Mathews

15:11(IST)

Ishant bowls a testing line here to Mathews and that is a maiden as the experienced campaigner looks happy to play out the good balls. Sri Lanka's score reads 53/2 as the Indians are looking at wickets here at Kotla. Clearly not easy to get wickets on a flat deck but the effort is there to see

15:05(IST)

4 runs from the Jadeja over here as Dilruwan picks a boundary off the last ball as this one is bowled way down the leg side and the opener happily guides it to the boundary. Sri Lanka's score reads 53/2 with Dilruwan and Mathews looking to build a partnership

15:02(IST)

3 boundaries from the Ishant over as suddenly Mathews looks like he has found the middle of the bat. First a flick to the square leg boundary and then a drive past Shikhar Dhawan at mid-off followed by one past R Ashwin at mid-on. Sri Lanka's score reads 49/2.

14:58(IST)

4 runs from the Shami over here as Dilruwan goes for a square drive off one that was slightly pitched up to the batsman. The Indians are clearly going for wickets and looking to induce the drive from the Lankan batsmen. Sri Lanka's score reads 37/2 with Mathews and Dilruwan getting beaten time and again.

14:52(IST)

DROPPED! This time it is Virat Kohli who drops Mathews at second slip. Straight in and straight out. Kohli seems like he cannot believe he missed that one. A jittery looking Mathews survives. Sri Lanka's score reads 33/2 with Mathews getting a life on 6.

14:48(IST)

Just 1 run from the Shami over as the pacer is managing to bowl a good line with pace. The Lankan batsmen have their task cut-out against the Indian pacers here as they are going full throttle. Sri Lanka's score reads 33/2 after 9 overs. Dilruwan and Mathews in the middle for the visitors.

14:44(IST)

5 runs from the Ishant over as Dilruwan ends it with a beautiful cover drive that races off the turf. Can Dilruwan make the Indians pays for the dropped chance? Sri Lanka's score reads 32/2 after 8 overs

14:41(IST)

Dilruwan rides his luck as Dhawan drops a dolly at second slip even though the ball was headed to Pujara at first slip. Shami cannot believe his luck as the Lankans now get 5 runs as penalty after the ball pops out of Dhawan's hand and hits the helmet kept for the forward short-leg fielder. Sri Lanka's score reads 27/2

14:15(IST)

Mathews ends with a boundary as umpires call for TEA on the second day. The session was first dominated by the Indian batsmen and then by the Indian bowlers as both Shami and Ishant was on fire. Sri Lanka's score reads 18/2 at the tea break and the Lankans need to be more cautious in their approach in the last session of the day.

LATEST UPDATES: Dilruwan goes for 42 as Jadeja challenges the on-field umpire's call and gets his man. Partnership broken and Kohli is elated. Virat Kohli had won the toss and decided to bat first.

PREVIEW IND vs SL, DAY 2: Indian batting continued to make merry against the hapless Sri Lankan attack as tons from Murali Vijay (155) and skipper Virat Kohli (156*) helped India reach 371/4 at the end of Day 1 of the third Test against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Friday. It could have been a whole lot worse for Sri Lanka, but two late wickets for Lakshan Sandakan helped the visitors pull back the hosts towards the fag end of the day. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Shikhar Dhawan - who came back into the team in place of Kl Rahul - and Murali Vijay started the proceedings for the hosts, playing out the difficult first hour on a cold morning. Just when the two looked set, Dhawan departed for 23 off 35 balls after Lakmal completed a bizarre catch, where he was left with just one shoe on. This was also Dilruwan Perera's 100th Test wicket. Cheteshwar Pujara joined Vijay and for a change, Sri Lanka managed to break this partnership early, as Samarawickrama completed a sharp catch at leg-slip. The visitors certainly delighted as their planning paid early dividends. Early wickets didn't stop India from scoring quick runs as the visitors failed to pile on any pressure on the hosts despite getting wickets. Local boy Virat Kohli joined Murali Vijay in the middle and the two picked up from where they left in Nagpur, piling on the runs for India and that to at a quick run rate. The 10,000 odd crowd that was at the Kotla got to see some entertaining cricket, with Kohli and Vijay matching each other shot for shot. The pair reached their 50 partnership off just 59 balls and the captain completed his half-century off just 52 balls. Kohli shifted gears and soon started scoring faster than Vijay, reaching his ton off 110 balls while Vijay too reached the landmark in 163 deliveries. With no Herath, Sri Lankan bowling lacked any bite and his replacement Sandakan conceded runs at more than 5 runs per over.
