80% of students in C’garh study in Govt schools: Min

The number of girls who enrolled in Middle Schools  in Chhattisgarh during 2016-17 was 970 per 1000 students, School Education and Tribal Development Minister Kedar Kashyap told reporters on Friday.

Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said that during the last 14 years, the State Government opened a total of 15,807 schools.

He said that around 80 per cent of the students in Chhattisgarh still study in Government schools.

The number of primary schools in the State during the last 14 year went up from 21,969 to 30,704, middle schools from 5760 to 13,241, high schools from 1,176 to 1,901 and higher secondary schools from 1,286 to 2,511, he said.

Chhattisgarh Government is committed for the economic welfare of the deprived sections of the society, Kashyap said

A major facelift has been given to the tribal areas like Dantewada which has now become a world-class educational hub, he said.

Citing various development works and welfare programmes for the weaker sections, Kashyap said that tremendous success has been witnessed by establishing Prayas School for the deprived sections of the society.

The Prayas school provides boarding facility for the students for preparations of entrance of medical and engineering courses, he said.

Till now 23 students of Prayas Schools has been selected for IIT, 117 for NIT, 27 in medical and 528 in various engineering colleges. These selected students are also financially helped for their higher studies, he said.

Regarding Prayas Foundation School he said that coaching to the students for competitive exams is commenced in these schools right from the class 9th.

These schools which have been started for the students are established in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur and Kanker, Kashyap said.

The passing result of class 12th from these schools was recorded to be 100 per cent, he said.

Apart from them Eklavya Schools, 14 Sports premises has also been developed, the Minister said.

For developing infrastructure for such schools under Tribal Sub-plan a fund of Rs 750 crore has been allocated, he said.

The budget for the Department which was Rs 704 crore in the year 2003 has been increased 14 fold in the year 2017 at Rs 12,000 crore, he said.
