PATNA: Class X topper Aumkar Pranav Shukla and Class XII's Abhinav Bhardwaj were felicitated and given Rs 10,000 each at the 27th annual day function of International School at S K Memorial Hall on Saturday. The sports excellence award was presented to Samridhi Singh (X), Raushan Kumar (XI) and Upmanyu Kautaliya Mishra (XII) for swimming.

The students performed different dance forms — from western, hip hop and salsa to gypsy, fusion and contemporary. The function began with a thematic play 'Crime against Women' to throw light on the ugly consequences of crime against women. It was followed by a theme-based dance 'Na Kaato Mujhe' that preached the message of saving trees. Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice' was also enacted by a group of students on the occasion.

The highlight of the function, however, was a tribute to King of pop Michael Jackson by Class XII students of the school.

State education minister Krishnanandan Prasad Verma, who was the chief guest, asked the school administration to provide 25% reservation to the students belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society. "Our department has to do a lot to improve the education system and it is not possible without the support of private schools," he said.

The function was also graced by former Patna high court judge Justice Samrendra Pratap Singh, former urban development minister Srinarayan Yadav, ex-minority welfare minister Abdul Gafoor, former transport minister Chandrika Rai, former science and technology minister Shahid Ali Khan, ex-MLA Manjeet Kumar and noted surgeon Dr A A Hai. The guests were felicitated by school patron Dr M Hasan and directress Farhat Hasan.

The programme was anchored by Talha Hameed and Aaditri Vaibhav.
