Forget PS5 release date, new PS4, Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch rival in 2018 release

WHILE THE PS5 release date will prove to be big news for console fans, the PS4, Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch will see another gaming device arrive in 2018.

The PS5 release date is currently not known and isn’t expected to be announced for sometime.

Some analysts believe that the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X will help extend the current console generation’s lifecycle for another few years.

And Ubisoft have come out and said that PlayStation and Xbox’s next big console launches won’t arrive until 2019 by the earliest.

So it would seem that there won’t be any new gaming devices arriving in 2018 to take on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One X and PS4.

However, there is one kickstarter campaign being primed which will look to emulate the success of the SNES Classic.

And while that doesn’t sound like such a drag for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, it should be noted that the SNES has been selling very well.

It was recently confirmed that the SNES Classic Mini outsold the PS4 and Xbox One in the month of October.

According to the latest NPD Group information, the Nintendo Switch was the top selling console last month in the United States, with the SNES Mini taking second place.

And that would be for the second month in a row, following details shared in September by the NPD Group.

So when a new retro device is being teased, it maybe worth the big players to take note.

The Ataribox, while offering retro gameplay, will also be unlike the recently released SNES and NES Classics.

The new gaming device will be Linux-based, including an Advanced Micro Devices processor, and will also be able to play new games.

What’s more it won’t boast the smaller price tag of Nintendo’s Mini consoles but will in fact cost around $250 to $300.

It should also be noted that the Ataribox won’t be a slouch when it comes to specs either, with the development team looking to use a Custom AMD CPU with Radeon Graphics, that will reportedly offer mid-range PC performance.

The Ataribox is going to be crowdfunded via indiegogo, which could be seen as a bit of a risk to some.

However, those in charge of the project believe that this could prove its best move, having already got access to a big vibrant community.

The Ataribox is aiming for launch in 2018, and recently gave a new update on what kind of additional hardware they will be offering.

The Ataribox Joystick was recently shown off on Facebook ahead of its official crowdfunding campaign launch.

The old-school gaming accessory looks to emulate the original design, although it's currently unclear if it will come as part of the new console, or an extra.
