Vadodara: A 68-year-old man residing at Vasna Road was mowed down by a state transport (ST) bus near traffic police office at Sayajigunj on Saturday morning.
The deceased Barkat Ali Khatri was going towards Sayajibaug after Eid celebrations at his home with his family members.
When Khatri was passing by the office of traffic police on his two-wheeler, an ST bus from Ahmedabad going towards Jambusar ran him over. Eye-witnesses told the police that Khatri died on the spot.
Cops from Sayajigunj police station reached the spot and arrested the driver Mahesh Vankar. According to police, Vankar, who hails from Kheda, had joined ST department as driver two months back. The incident led to traffic jam on the stretch and traffic cops had tough time to manage it.
After Khatri's son Zakariya, who is an oil trader, reached there, the family took the custody of the body.
Sources said that the family will take Khatri's body to Bodeli, which is their native town and where the last rites took place on Saturday night.
