Man Utd news: BBC Sport man Mark Lawrenson makes Arsenal vs Manchester United prediction

MANCHESTER UNITED will draw 1-1 with Arsenal this evening (5.30pm).

That’s the verdict of former Liverpool star and BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson, who reckons Jose Mourinho will be happy to settle for a point at the Emirates.

United visit Arsenal today off the back of a run of three consecutive Premier League wins, which has kept them in second place.

The Gunners, meanwhile, are four points and two places worse off than their old rivals but face Mourinho’s men having come out on top in their last 12 fixtures at home in all competitions.

Lawrenson reckons the Premier League big guns will have cancelled each other out come the full-time whistle though.

He will look at this game in isolation, and see a point as a good result

BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson on Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho

"This is a huge game, between two sides in the top six who are in good form, so you know what I am going for here - a 1-1 draw," Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

"The Gunners, in particular, are flying but I am still waiting for the moment where they slip up.

"United are on a good run too of course, but it is the sort of fixture where you look at the way Arsenal are playing and think Jose Mourinho would take a point.

Mark Lawrenson thinks Manchester United and Arsenal will play out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates

"That is what I think he will play for and I don't think Mourinho will care if a draw means Manchester City extend their lead at the top of the table.

"He will look at this game in isolation, and see a point as a good result."

United can close the gap on City to five points this weekend if they beat Arsenal and Pep Guardiola’s side lose to relegation-threatened West Ham.
