Nabha: A Class XII student was murdered by an old schoolmate and his accomplice when he resisted their attempt to kidnap him. Police exhumed the body of Rajat Arora, 17, from Dosanjh Bir (forest) area on late Friday evening, a day after his killers dumped it there.
Police have arrested one accused in the case and are hunting for his accomplice, who is now absconding. They have booked the two for murder.
Police began investigations after the parents of Rajat, a student of Arya Senior Secondary School, Nabha, filed a missing complaint on Thursday evening. They told police that Rajat had gone to play cricket with his friends in Ripudaman College grounds here in the morning and not returned home in Khok village ever since.
Their investigations revealed the involvement of one of Rajat's old classmates Sukhbir Singh and his senior Inderjit Singh, both residents of Khokage. Inderjit, who was arrested on Friday morning, told his interrogators that he and Sukhbir had planned to kidnap Rajat for a huge ransom from his parents, who were both government employees.
According to cops, Sukhbir and Rajat were classmates till Class X. They said the accused were aware of the financial status of Rajat's family and wanted to make some quick buck. They said when the duo tried to kidnap Rajat, he put up resistance and made them panic. Scared of being caught, they slit his throat and even stabbed him in the abdomen.
Police sent Rajat's body to the local civil hospital for a post mortem examination and later shifted it to the mortuary.
