In September I signed up for fixed line fibre with (who I thought was) Telkom when the complex I live in was declared fibre ready. After the usual delays with the application, it was approved early in October, and scheduled for installation.
This is when the fun started. The first technician who came to my house informed me that they could not do the installation since the cables did not actually go up to my unit, but stopped 4 houses away for some reason.
When I attempted to follow up with the salesman who represented Telkom, I found out that they are actually a third party seller, and they could only send Telkom an email to fix the installation. Is it legal for a company to present themselves as Telkom when selling products?
I have called the Telkom Call Centre repeatedly, only for them to send a technician to the house to attempt the same installation. Every time they promise to escalate the query.
I am now stuck in a circle going nowhere. I cannot cancel the Telkom application since they are the only company who can fix the installation. All the other service providers I tried, also have to use Telkom for the lines. Telkom has secured a monopoly, and does not even bother to provide basic customer service
I have tried to speak to managers at the call centre, to no avail. All I get are empty promises to get back to me, which never happens.
What do I do?
