Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil is months away from completing the final year of his contract with Arsenal and is all set to leave the Emirates on a free transfer unless he signs a new deal. Ozil has been actively shying away from signing putting pen to paper - something that has not impressed his manager Arsene Wenger
But after he has digested the news of the 2018 FIFA World Cup draw, his next assignment will be to pick holes in what is generally a rather miserly Manchester United defense on Saturday evening.
The manager in the away dugout is his old friend Jose Mourinho who, unabashedly hailed the German as “the best No. 10 in the world." The Portuguese who is in his second season at Old Trafford is yet to find a settled playmaker for the Red Devils.
Ozil who performed with great potency and guile in his three years at Real Madrid under Mourinho has been the topic of heavy speculations along the lines of reuniting with his former manager.
United have continuously been linked with Ozil, and when the manager is asked about bringing the 29-year-old on board with him for a second stint, Mourinho, who is known to trust a known devil more often than not, has never ruled out the possibility.
When asked about the possibility of bringing the World Cup winner to Old Trafford, Mourinho’s responded with an inimitable, “No comments.”
The playmaker has not had the best of times at the Emirates so far, and according to reports on ESPN, he is open to staying on in the Premier League after his contract runs out at the end of the on-going season.
At Arsenal, manager Wenger though has his own set of problems. Wenger, a part of the Gunners dugout for more than two decades, insists that neither Ozil nor Alexis Sanchez will be leaving in the winter transfer window.
Jose Mourinho is yet to register an away win with Manchester United against any of the top-six since he moved to Old Trafford, but on Saturday all eyes and camera lenses will be trained on the Portuguese and his German friend.
