Manchester United star Ibrahimovic could have ended up at Arsenal back in the day, with the Gunners keen for him to undergo a trial.

The 36-year-old, however, deemed himself to be above such a test and famously rejected Arsene Wenger to sign for European giants Ajax instead.

Ibrahimovic could feature for Manchester United when they face Arsenal today as they aim to cut Manchester City’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to just five points.

And the former Sweden international has now opened up about the day he told Wenger he would not be moving to the north London side.

“I don't do trials,” he told Sky Sports Italia show I Signori del Calico.

“I went to London for an appointment with Wenger, who asked me to audition for the Gunners.

“I told him ‘I will not do a trial: either you take me or not, I'm not here to waste time’”.

Ibrahimovic has made Arsenal regret that decision during spells at Barcelona and AC Milan.

He bagged a brace in a Champions League clash at the Emirates when Barcelona travelled to the capital in 2011.

And, the following year while at AC Milan, he converted a penalty in a 4-0 thumping at the San Siro.

More of that today would see United’s title chances boosted with the Red Devils also aiming to move further ahead of Chelsea.

The Blues won 3-1 against Newcastle today with Eden Hazard bagging a brace.
