Heads of local self-government bodies of Uzbekistan were given the right to involve unemployed people living in their territory to public works through employment contracts.

The term "unemployed" includes persons registered in the local labor authority as job seekers, so they have the official status of the unemployed person.

The new function is stipulated in the "Regulation of Labor Relations in Citizens' Self-Government Bodies, approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers" No. 944, adopted on Nov.27 of this year.

For the period of participation in public works, the payment of the unemployment benefit is suspended. After completing participation in public works the payment will be renewed.

The document entered into force on Nov.28.
