A woman police sub-inspector and a constable were suspended after they allegedly tried to bribe a senior police officer who was investigating earlier complaints against the two.
Police sub-inspector Devyani Ambekar and constable Ketan Naik were suspended after they allegedly tried to bribe Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Vimal Gupta to close the inquiry against them, police said.
Police said that Ambekar was facing a departmental inquiry after she along with another constable Rahul Salgaoncar allegedly assaulted a man near Panaji in 2014 and took away his car.
Naik was facing a departmental inquiry in a case related to indiscipline.
"Both were facing departmental inquiry against them which was being conducted by Gupta. They are currently suspended after they tried to bribe him," a police spokesperson said today.
While Ambekar was posted at the Women Police Station in Panaji, constable Naik was working at the headquarters.
