Hubballi: There is a dire need of serving the nomads and tribal people, who despite being Hindus, are leading an unstable life and denied civic rights, said RSS general secretary Suresh Joshi alias Bhaiyyaji Joshi.
Joshi was addressing the gathering at Seva Sangama at Gokul Garden here on Saturday. Joshi said, "There are a number of nomadic communities and tribes in the country. Those people are proud of their culture. They celebrate the fact that they are Hindus. Still, they are leading a pathetic life. They do not have identity card. Their children do not have access to education. The society must come forward to serve them. We should serve them in a manner that it brings about a change in their life."
Joshi said that only the government cannot help such people. "It is the duty of every citizen to do their duty by serving such people. The media should also serve society by highlighting positive issues instead of hyping negative news. The news reports should help the people develop positive attitude," he said.
Protect Kappatagudda: Seer
Shivakumara Swami of Nandiveri Mutt at Kappatagudda Hills in Gadag district, who was felicitated for resolving water problem around Kappatagudda, called upon people to save Kappatagudda. "Kappatagudda is the property of the people of the state. However, capitalists are conspiring to plunder the natural resources at Kappatagudda which is abundant with gold and medicinal herbs. Each tonne of soil at Kappatagudda has about 4 grams of gold. This is why the capitalists are planning to plunder the hill. The people should protect the hill," he said.
The pontiff said that in 2003, there was scarcity of water at Kappatagudda. "There was need of techniques to save water flowing from the hill. Volunteers dug 80,000 trenches and 25,000 pits to save water, and succeeded. They have planted 3 lakh saplings. Gadag district receives water only if Kappatagudda receives good rain. The government should also protect it," he said.
Earlier at a women's conference organized as part of Seva Sangam, Union minister Ananth Kumar's wife Tejaswini, delivered a lecture.
