Jaipur: Litterbugs beware. The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is on a hunt to impose heavy fine on residents and commercial establishments for throwing garbage in public.
On Saturday, the corporation imposed heavy fine on a coaching institute and a rest-house for throwing garbage in public. It also sealed a laboratory centre throwing biomedical waste and not disposing it scientifically.
As the Centre's ranking programme on Swachh Bharat is approaching closer, the JMC teams are leaving no stone unturned to show the city cleaner.
An official informed, following city mayor Ashok Lahoti's direction, the team imposed Rs 20,000 fine on Career Power Coaching Centre (Mansarovar zone) for throwing garbage and defacing public properties.
Similarly, fine of Rs 20,000 was imposed on BL laboratory in Moti Doongri zone for not disposing medical waste scientifically. Carrying charges were also imposed on Modi Dharamshala situated infront of SMS Hospital. Chief Health Inspector, Yogendra Jajotar said, " The offenders were throwing garbage road . On Modi Dharamshala Rs 10,000 was levied as carrying charge. The drive will be continued and strict action will be taken against these offenders."
The state will participate in Swachh Survekshan-2018 which will begin in January, where 500 cities with more than one lakh population will be judged on various cleanliness parameters. The corporation is giving extra attention to fine offenders as the weightage of 'processing and disposal' component has been increased from 20 to 25%
An offical informed, in Swachh Survekshan-2018 all the cities will be ranked based on 71 sanitation-related parameters with different weightage. "The Centre has revised the methodology of the survey this year. The cumulative marks will now be 4,000, up from 2,000 in 2017. All the cities will be ranked based on 71 sanitation-related parameters with different weightage. Negative marking has been introduced this time to ensure that cities do not make false claims about improving the sanitation infrastructure," said a senior official.
This year , the weightage of citizen feedback has been increased to 35% . Similarly, the weightage of direct observation has also been increased from 25 to 30%.
The Centre has reduced points for collection and transportation of garbage from 40 to 30% in this survey. A new parameter, 'innovation', with a weightage of 5% to encourage cities to take up innovative sanitation practices and solutions has been included this year.
