PM visits deceased mayor Annisul's residence

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has visited the residence of deceased mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq to pay her last respect.

Sheikh Hasina went to Annisul’s residence at Banani in the city at noon on Saturday (December 02). She paid her last respect to the deceased DNCC mayor and consoled his family members. She also prayed for salvation of the departed soul.  

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Awami League senior leader and commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, the party’s general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader were also present at the time, among others.

Later, the body of Annisul Huq was taken to the Army Stadium where the people were paying their last respect.

His namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held there after Asr prayers. He will be buried beside the graves of his mother and son at the Banani graveyard.

Younger brother of Annisul and Chief of Bangladesh Army General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq received the body at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after it was brought back from London.

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the body reached the airport at noon.

Awami League leaders, including Obaidul Quader, and senior officials of the city corporation were present at the airport.

From the airport, Annisul’s body was taken to his Banani residence.

Annisul Huq died in a London hospital on Thursday (November 30) at the age of 65.
