Man Utd news: Manchester United interested in signing Schalke star Leon Goretzka

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly joined the list of clubs targeting Schalke contract rebel Leon Goretzka.

The Germany international has forged a reputation as one of his country’s brightest prospects over the past few years.

And next summer there’s likely to be a scramble for his signature as he looks set to run down his Schalke deal.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been credited with interest in bringing Goretzka to the Premier League.

Champions League giants Barcelona and Juventus are thought to be keeping tabs on the 22-year-old midfielder too.

The latest reports suggest Jose Mourinho has his eye on Goretzka as he seeks to bolster his United squad.

Manchester United have entered the race to sign Leon Goretzka from Schalke

According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils are interesting in adding Goretzka to their midfield ranks.

United could make their move for him next month, when he’ll be able to sign a pre-contract agreement.

Alternatively, a fee could be offered in an attempt to prise him away from Schalke mid-season.

The Bundesliga outfit are unlikely to be willing to entertain a January deal though.

Schalke have offered to make Goretzka the highest paid player in the club’s history.

And they dug their heels in earlier this year when Sead Kolasinac entered the final six months of his contract.

Chelsea and Arsenal were keen on the Bosnian but Schalke opted not to sell him.

And that was in spite of the prospect of a free transfer exit being on the cards.
