Barcelona and Tottenham have opened talks over Christian Eriksen with hopes of signing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool starting to fade.

The Reds’ Brazilian playmaker has been the Catalan giants’ first choice to enhance their creativity.

But Barcelona have found Liverpool problematic, having refused to sell in the summer and they are reluctant to lose Coutinho in January.

As a result, attention appears to be turning to Spurs’ star midfielder.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Barcelona see greater hope in being able to bring Eriksen to the Nou Camp than Coutinho.

The Denmark international would also prove the cheaper option of the two.

Mohamed Salah has caught the attention of European champions Real Madrid.

That is according to his international manager Hector Cuper.

The Egypt boss claims Real could look to lure Liverpool’s top scorer away from Anfield shortly after arriving for around £40m.

"I’ve received confirmed news revealing Real Madrid’s interest in Salah," Cuper told ON Sport TV in Egypt. “But let’s not rush things.

“To me, he is in an amazing position right now."

Jurgen Klopp has endured a defensive crisis this week.

In the run up to Liverpool’s game at Brighton today, illness and injury plagued the Reds’ backline.

Klopp said: "We have an injury problem with Joel Matip, Joe Gomez is ill, Ragnar Klavan was ill until yesterday - he didn't train with the team even yesterday so we took him here to see how he felt today.

"A few other changes not because of injuries, that's the situation, [we're] a little bit different in the defence line."
