BENGALURU: Free-of-cost medical care to ailing bus commuters and staff of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will now be offered at city's two major bus terminals — Kempegowda and Yeshwantpur.

These clinics will have one doctor, one nurse, one lab technician and one pharmacist and will be open from Monday to Saturday between 7 am and 9 pm. However, on Sunday, these clinics will function for half a day.

The two 'Indira Clinics' were inaugurated by Transport Minister H M Revanna on Saturday. Speaking about the facilities available, the minister said that the clinics would have single beds, a pharmacy, oxygen supply, wheelchair facilities, first aid as well as testing for blood pressure, blood sugar and thyroid testing. All of this would be provided free of cost.

"In the coming days, we will open more such clinics across the city," he said. Speaking about other achievements in BMTC, Revanna said that a super specialty hospital would come up in Yeshwantpur for employees of the state's transport corporations. "We are also planning to start a 'less traffic day' campaign on alternate Saturdays. We want more people to take BMTC buses," he said.

Also on Saturday, 50 new buses were delivered to the BMTC by Tata Motors as part of a larger order of 1385 buses which was placed this year.
