Al-Youm said under the title "Saudi Arabia lays down the first brick in building the solution of the Syrian crisis through uniting the ranks of opposition" that a number of international leaders and officials have lauded the Kingdom's management of the Syrian opposition file, citing its unprecedented success in bringing about the three different opposition rivals at one table in Riyadh last week to name an unified delegation to Geneva talks with the Syrian governing regime. Not only that, but the Syrian opposition members themselves applauded what they call strenuous efforts by foreign minister Adel Al-Jubeir and his mediating team who worked day and night to reach this goal, as they put it.
Such a result, the Kingdom's diplomacy could not have reached if its leadership was biased to one party against others, the paper said, adding that, in fact, the Kingdom's standing at the same distance from all parties of the opposition was the factor that led to healing the opposition differences and targeting the interest of the Syrian people who are the only losers of the six-year civil war that resulted in derailing the wheel of development and creating an attractive environment for terrorist organizations and groups to find safe havens and incubators in the country.
Al-Youm also quoted Staffan de Mistura, the UN special envoy to Syrian crisis, as expressing optimism following the great success of the Kingdom to unify the opposition that a durable political solution could be reached.
In conclusion, the paper said the Kingdom has well done its duty. Remaining is the role of the world community, the west in particular in addition to Russia, to step forward towards finding a solution to the Syrian complicated crisis as the effort exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not suffice to make ripe the political solution, the paper said. Al-Youm added that serious steps are needed to complete the Saudi tremendous effort. Notably mounting more pressure on the all regional parties who are now consider the Syrian territory permissible to their violations is direly needed, the paper concluded.
