The German playmaker’s future at the Emirates Stadium looks in serious doubt as he has refused to sign an agreement beyond the current season.
It means that he would be able to sign a pre-agreement with a foreign club in January, or leave on the cheap if the Gunners want to cash in on the 29-year-old.
Barcelona have been tipped as the favourites for his signature, but with Ozil’s latest revelations it could swing the pendulum in Los Blancos’ favour.
Ozil, who represented Real between 2010 and 2013 before making the £42million move to Arsenal, has explained how he still keeps in contact with Zidane.

When I got to Real Madrid and met him, my hands were sweating and I was nervous.
The Frenchman was in charge of the reserve side when the midfielder was at the Bernabeu, before taking over the reigns in 2016.
But their paths crosses on numerous occasions and Ozil has revealed how he still keeps in contract with his fellow World Cup winner.
"The way he [Zidane] interpreted and directed his game has fascinated me and still fascinates me,” Ozil told German publication Football Mgzn.
"His technique and his creativity were outstanding. As a youth player I wanted to be like him.
"When I got to Real Madrid and met him, my hands were sweating and I was nervous.
"But Zidane was very kind and positive. We still have contact from time to time."
Ozil netted his second goal of the season as Arsenal hammered Huddersfield 5-0 in midweek.
And he will be hoping to continue his form when the Gunners take on Manchester United this afternoon (5.30pm).
