Departing from the conventional role of flaunting batons to enforce law, the police officers were seen on Thursday, distributing quilts among the elderly persons and the women from the weaker sections suffering due to the chilling winter.
Senior superintendent of police Jagat Ram Joshi led the team in rendering service to the society in a form other than policing. Quilts were distributed in the district police headquarters in Pauri and also in a village Bangwari. Besides, the cops from SSP to the constables visited 815 senior citizens and people with special needs in their homes located in urban and rural areas of the district to learn about their problems under the drive launched by the Pauri district administration.
SSP Joshi distributed 38 quilts among the senior citizens of the villages located near Pauri town while six quilts were distributed among the women from village Bangwari. In all, 79 quilts have been distributed in the district - 24 in Srinagar, 30 in Kotdwar and 25 in Laxmanjhula.
Joshi said that the aim of the drive is to identify the senior citizens who are living alone. “We must assist them in every possible way aside from providing them with security. The drive into its fourth month, we keep visiting them once every month and their problems are being addressed,” he added.
During the drive, Srinagar police have so far met 241 senior citizens while Srinagar Mahila Police met 24 of them. Satpuli police met 37 elderly persons while Devprayagg police met 33, Kalagarh police seven, Dhumakot police 55, Kotdwar police 220, Rekhnikhal police 12, Lansdowne police 23 and Laxmanjhula police 125.
