Quepem: Quepem municipal council (QMC) chairperson, Raul Pereira vowed to go ahead with the demolition of the old market building despite any legal formalities, citing safety of citzens as one of the reasons for the decision.
The work which had commenced on Sunday, had to be halted after opposition councillor Amol Kanekar raised an objection stating that no tender was issued for the exercise.
Pereira convened an emergency meeting after QMC chief officer had stalled the work following Kanekar's complaint.
During Friday's meeting, heated arguments ensued between Pereira and Kanekar, while all ruling councillors urged the chairperson to go ahead with the demolition.
