Hunt facing selection headache ahead of TKO final

2017-12-01 12:48

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is uncertain whether players just back from injury are ready to feature in Saturday's TKO final against Bloemfontein Celtic.

The Clever Boys have struggled in the league after winning the title last season, their case not being helped by a series of injuries.

However, they've managed to reach the Telkom Knockout (TKO) final, to be played against Celtic at the Princes Magogo Stadium on Saturday evening, and have in the last week or two also welcomed back several players from injury, as well as the previously suspended Gabadinho Mhango.

Defenders Nazeer Allie and Buhle Mkhwanazi are two important returns after that department was particularly hard hit. But Hunt has several tricky decisions to make in other parts of the pitch as well.

"We've got a few back. We've got [Daylon] Claasen, Gabadinho, Ben Motswari. They're all training," Hunt was quoted saying by TimesLive.

"But do I play them? Those are the things we're going to have to discuss and think about. Because it's a one-off game. So do you put those guys back in?

"They are an integral part of us and do give us legs and pace, which we haven't had in this whole first round. Steven [Pienaar] played on Saturday, so that adds another one.

"Before that the team picked itself; now you have to pick a team again - which is good. At least the defence is back - it was the first game in 16 matches in which we've had our whole defence playing.

"To have 'Tyson' [Hlatshwayo], Buhle, Allie and Hlanti all playing, that gives us our rock, the strength of our team."

Kick off is at 18:00.
