GURUGRAM: On Friday, an awareness program was conducted by national institute of electronics and information technology (NIELIT) for various government departments in the district to educate them about cyber security.

Around 50 government officials from Gurugram learned the ways to identify hacking, cyber and WiFi security.

In recent past, hacking has posed a major threat to various organisations, both private and public. In some cases important information was leaked or misused, in others ransom was demanded.

Therefore, the workshop was conducted for the officials where they were told to identify any possible cyber security threats.

Also, basic security lapses such as password hacking, safe ways to use internet on cellphones, benefits of using anti-virus, identifying suspicious emails, safe ways to open email and attachments, importance of logging out, data security and media access control security were explained to the officials.

Also, in a bid to promote digital transaction, the session was also used to train officials in mobile wallet transaction and internet banking. The experts say that only reliable mobile wallet should be used to avoid any frauds or security threats.

Ravindra Singh, joint director, NIELIT said that "we have to be very careful while using internet. While downloading, a lot of viruses try to break in to your devices and steal teh confidential information. It is important that each computer and laptop is installed with original anti-virus".
