Ludhiana: Vivek Kumar, divisional railway manager (DRM) of Ferozepur Division, on Thursday carried out a special inspection drive at Ludhiana railway station. During the inspection, he visited general ticket counters, circulating area, and different platforms to check the basic infrastructure and facilities provided by local rail officials to commuters.

While speaking to mediapersons regarding re-construction of the Jagraon bridge, part of which had been closed for the past more than one-and-a-half years, he articulated that the tender process would commence soon, and construction would be completed by March next year. Railways will fix deadlines for firms that will take part in the tender process. Moreover, the multipurpose food stall scheme (an initiative of Ferozepur Division authorities to provide all essential food elements under one stall) will soon be ready at the city railway station to counter the problem of unauthorized vendors.

Sources in the railway station claimed: "The divisional railway manager was not happy with construction department officials over delay in the installation of lift and escalators, as several deadlines have passed, but still the work has not been completed by the department officials concerned." He also gave instructions to mechanical department officials to work on some mechanism which would help rail traffic counter the problem of delays in arrival and departures of most long route trains.

As many as 18 long distance train schedules were hit due to a dense blanket of fog in the early morning hours on the Northern Railways route. Some Ludhiana-bound trains have been cancelled by the authorities from December 1 to 16 in view of lack of visibility in the evening hours.
