CM, Letpao Haokip lead in congratulating Mirabai

Chief Minister N Biren, Sports Minister Letpao Haokip and IPR Minister Th Biswajit have conveyed heartiest congratulations to Saikhom Mirabai Chanu on breaking India's two-decade jinx as she won Gold at the World Weightlifting Championships in Anaheim, United States .
In his congratulatory message, the Chief Minister said that the whole State feels proud of her as Mirabai has become the second Indian weightlifter, who has won gold medal in World Weightlifting Championship after Karnam Malleswari .
This feat has once again proved to the world that Manipur is the Sports Powerhouse of India and the State can be taken as the Sports Capital of the country, N Biren said .

Expressing hope that the star weightlifter would bring more laurels to the country and the State, the Chief Minister conveyed his best wishes for her future .
"It was a moment of pride for the country and Manipur in particular to see one of our sisters make history in Weightlifting," YAS Minister Letpao Haokip said .
Speaking to the media by the sideline of the housie ticket launch ceremony of Kuki Sporting Club at Indoor Hall, Khuman Lampak, Letpao Haokip said Manipur truly deserves the epithet 'sports hub' of the country given the many sports stars it has produced in almost every sports discipline .
The Minister exuded strong confidence that the spectacular achievement of Mirabai Chanu—who set the sky as the limit after a previous disappointing performance— would be an inspiration for many sports persons of the State who are in line to make it big .
Letpao Haokip also wished Mirabai Chanu a brighter and more prosperous career ahead .
In his congratulatory message, IPR Minister Th Biswajit, who is also the State Government spokesperson, said the feat achieved by Mirabai is all the more impressive as Chanu's win has ended a medal drought of more than two decades for India at the world weightlifting championship .
Biswajit said Mirabai Chanu has brought laurels for the State and the country, and that her gold has only reaffirmed Manipur's place in the sporting world.
He further wished her all success in her future endeavours .
Mirabai Chanu lifted 85 kg in Snatch and 109 kg in Clean and Jerk for a total of 194 kg to lift the gold in the 48 kg category.
