GREATER NOIDA: The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is all set to revive the high-speed Metro project between Greater Noida and the international airport that is to come up at Jewar.
On Friday, a committee headed by Officer was set up by officer on special duty, Shailender Bhatia to study the feasibility of the proposal and to appoint Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a techno-economic feasibility report (TEFR) along with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed corridor. The proposal is to link sector 20 in YEIDA area to Jewar near the sanctioned international airport.
According to YEIDA officials, a meeting of the committee, which includes officials from YEIDA's planning department is scheduled to be held early next week. "The committee will mull over our past proposals for providing connectivity to the sanctioned airport near Jewar," said Arun Vir Singh, CEO, YEIDA.
"After this, we will seek an approval from the Board this month before formally informing DMRC to take our proposal further on track by preparing its feasibility and thereafter a DPR," Singh told TOI. The authority CEO said, "The population in Greater Noida and YEIDA is set to increase considerably. Besides, several new housing schemes are also in the pipeline. Considering the sanctioned international airport will be in place by 2023 and that thousands of more people will inhabit the area, the Metro link will prove very useful. It will also serve the several proposed residential, industrial and IT units along the expressway."
The corridor was first proposed in February 2014 and again in June 2015 by YEIDA Board. In June 2016, DMRC had told YEIDA that it was too early to prepare a techno economical feasibility report for the proposed corridor and suggested it be done after five years. "However, in order to provide connectivity to the urbanizing area, we have once again decided to revive the project. The proposed 39-km Metro track will be aligned at road level along the Yamuna Expressway. It will link the zero point of the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida to the airport. This track will also be linked to the almost complete 29.7km Aqua Metro corridor connecting Noida and Greater Noida," Singh explained. "The proposed line is expected to not only provide a fast link between the two townships of Greater Noida and YEIDA but also bring these places closer to the national capital by boosting connectivity," he said.
"But, the final alignment will depend on the feasibility and what the committee suggests and finally the TEFR," he added.
