PATNA: Impressed with former state DGP Abhayanand's unique ideas like speedy trials, special auxiliary force and his Super-30, writer-cum-director Sujit K Singh is making a 60-minute docudrama, 'Abhayanand: The Cop with a Chalk', on his life and achievements.
Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, Sujit said he has highlighted in the film the major events of Abhayanand. "He comes from an elite family and never struggled for anything, but his works for the deprived sections of the society are remarkable. He not only brought changes in the law and order situation, but also in the field of education. I talked to his former colleagues in the home department, educators and his disciples. All of them praised him and his personality," said Sujit.
"We will depict his childhood days with constables deployed at his father's house in Patel Nagar in Patna. The film has been shot on locations in Patna, Gaya, and Delhi besides Maoist-hit areas of Munger district," said Sujit.
Himanshu, who hails from Bhagalpur, plays the role of young Abhayanand.
Sujit said the film is in the final stages of its shooting. "Hopefully, the film will be screened in March in Patna. We'll also screen it at international film festival. A biopic on Abhayanand has also been planned and some producers are interested in it. A docudrama is not enough to justify his works done for the society," he said.
A 1977-batch IPS officer, Abhayanand said, "Through this docudrama, I want to give a message that society is ailing with so many problems and changes can be brought about through novel ways. Police credibility lies in investigation with justice. I always believe in helping the deprived sections of society and only education can improve their condition."
