(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) By Suleiman Redha DUBAI, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Meshari Al-Thifeeri won the UAE Local Rally Championship 2017 (FT1 category) Friday after finishing the tourney's fifth and final round in the Fujairah Emirate.
Despite coming second along with his Emirati assistant Rashid Al-Shamsi in fifth round behind US racer Bill Thomas and his compatriot, Al-Thifeeri, however, managed to win the championship title after attaining highest rate of points in all the tourney's rounds.
Following the race, the Ruler of Fujairah Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi crowned the Kuwaiti winner, who displayed a high performance during his participation in the event.
In a statement to KUNA, Al-Thifeeri expressed his tremendous happiness and joy for winning the championship for Kuwait, dedicating his victory to the Kuwaiti government and people.
"Winning the UAE Local Rally is one of the memorable highlights of my sport career," Al-Thifeeri said, praising the Mighty Allah for enabling him to achieve a historic accomplishment after competing against some of the world's prominent racers.
He also thanked all of those who backed him, notably Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, the Public Authority for Sport, and Basel Al-Salem Al-Sabah Motor Racing Club, expressing his gratitude and appreciation to their unlimited financial and spiritual support. (end) smr.ma
