Shimla: In the Suraj Singh custodial death case, CBI on Thursday submitted a status report and 600-page chargesheet in the Himachal Pradesh high court. CBI investigation has revealed that Suraj was killed due to police harassment. As former Shimla SP, D W Negi has also been arrested by CBI in custodial death case, supplementary chargesheet against him would also be submitted before the high court by December 20.
Suraj Singh was one of the alleged accused arrested by police in connection with the gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Kotkhai area of Shimla district in July this year. He was killed inside the police lock up on July 18 night and police had claimed that the main accused arrested in gang rape case, Raju, had killed Suraj.
CBI counsel Anshul Bansal filed the status report and chargesheet before the court of acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma. Court asked the CBI by when would the entire case be solved on which CBI counsel informed that three teams of CBI is probing the case and investigation has reached at crucial stage.
CBI has informed the court that so far 1,000 samples have been taken and report of some samples still awaited. Court observed that public sentiments are associated with Kotkhai gang rape and murder case and hopes that case would be solved soon by CBI. Court also appreciated the investigation conducted by CBI so far.
Bansal said that some police officials have recorded their statements under section 164 which are being verified. He said that if needed then these police officials will be made approver in the case. He said that supplementary chargesheet against former SP, D W Negi would be submitted in the court in four weeks.
He said that investigation has revealed that Suraj was not killed by Raju as claimed by police but his death resulted due to police harassment. He said that investigation in gangrape and murder case has reached at crucial stage and three teams of CBI is regularly visiting the forest areas. He said that soon the investigation would be brought to logical conclusion.
