The two appeared on the sofa alongside This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield who probed them about the alleged relationship.

Phillip immediately addressed the elephant in the room by questioning the Strictly favourites on the speculations.

However, Mollie, 30, was quick to laugh off the rumours of a love affair with AJ, 23.

"No we're not together, no we're not," she said.

Phillip and Holly clearly weren't satisfied with her answer and continued to press the pair.

Holly said: "You look so lovely together, you dance so beautifully together. I mean, it would be nice." 

Mollie coyly insisted they we're just very close friends, not lovers.

"We're training 12 hours a day and I still love spending every minute with him," she enthused. "We're literally like best friends, we spend so much time together."

The Saturdays singer went on to address the sometimes overzealous nature of fans when it comes to the relationships between the contestants and their partners.

"I think with Strictly they always like to think there's a romance," she giggled.

Mollie and AJ will return to the ballroom this weekend with a Rumba.
