VADODARA: Even as the police are trying to tighten noose around bootleggers ahead of elections, liquor is flowing freely on the streets here.
On Wednesday, a bootlegger met with an accident with another motorcycle near Sama pond.
As the two vehicles crashed into each other, several pouches of country-made liquor fell from the unidentified bootlegger's bag. According to eye-witnesses, the bootlegger immediately fled from the spot leaving his bike and liquor there.
Some passers-by informed the police control room about the accident and the liquor pouches after which a PCR van reached the spot. Police said that there were 20 pouches, each containing two litres of liquor. Cops seized the liquor and the bootlegger's motorcycle. An investigating officer said said that stench of liquor had spread in the surroundings as some of the pouches had burst.
The seized bike did not have a registration number plate. Even the other motorcyclist who was injured had left from the spot before the cops reached there.
Locals have complained that often bootleggers drive rashly in the area during late hours with big bags containing country-made liquor pouches.
