Coimbatore: The city corporation has failed to put up resolutions and details of the projects on it website for the past three months, denying citizens the right to information.
The civic body had launched the website after the right to information Act specified that they need to disclose information to the public. As per Section 4 of RTI Act, they have to disclose all information to the public voluntarily.
"The minutes and agenda of the council meeting should be put up on the website. Even if the council is not there, the corporation commissioner, who is the special officer, should ensure that these details are uploaded," said RTI activist SP Thiyagarajan.
Council secretary A Amalraj, who is in charge of the online initiative, said the website has been down for several months. "We are co-ordinating with the IT department, who have found some issues with the site. Once the issues are resolved, we will put up all details," he said.
Programmer Karthi said the website was being developed with new features and all information would be uploaded soon.
Meanwhile, residents said that the corporation had not uploaded any information about projects for the past several years. "Until 2010, some information was uploaded. After that, none of the project information has been uploaded," said a resident.
As per the norms, details of water connection, pending details, charges, plan approval information, pending applications, under construction public building, action taken, court case details, road work and other engineering work in progress with fund details, quality and quantity, contractor detail, date of commencement of projects, date of probable completion, streetlight details, all tender details, parks and public purpose sites should all be put up on the website.
"In fact, when a road work is taken up, information should be uploaded about the progress of the work every day," said secretary of the Coimbatore Consumer Cause K Kathirmathiyon.
