JBIC rethinks Anpara C power project

The Anpara C power project could see another phase of uncertainty with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation reportedly seeking certain clarifications from the Union government and the Uttar Pradesh government. The JBIC's move comes in the wake of the UP government's decision to hand over the project to a private party, which could further delay the project. Work on Anpara C was supposed to commence soon after the Anpara B plant was commissioned in 1994. But the Rs 3,526-crore project did not take off due to various reasons such as funds crunch.
