Arsenal set to launch Karim Benzema bid as Arsene Wenger eyes Alexis Sanchez replacement

ARSENE WENGER has identified the man he wants to replace Alexis Sanchez next season.

Karim Benzema is on Arsene Wenger's radar to replace Alexis Sanchez

But he has a battle on his hands to agree a deal with Real Madrid.

Wenger, according to reports in Spain from Don Balon, will finally go in for Karim Benzema.

Arsenal are set to lose Sanchez in the summer when his contract expires - or in January if they decide to cash in.

Wenger this week said it was likely Sanchez would stay until the summer unless they were offered something unbelievable in the January widow.

And the Frenchman has always been a fan of Real Madrid striker Benzema.

He has tried to sign him before but this summer could be the time he finally lands him.

Madrid are looking to sell as they overhaul their attacking unit with Benzema, Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio uncertain of their futures.

Arsenal hope to land Benzema for around £44m (€50m) but Madrid value the 29-year-old £70m so there is a way to go to find an agreement.

Madrid are looking at a fire sale as they try and afford a deal for Neymar.

Reports today have emerged saying they want to sign the former Barcelona ace in 18 months and earlier in the week it was revealed which player would be let go to bring in the funds.

Benzema was listed and his poor form this season could speed up his departure.

He has scored just twice in La Liga this season but Wenger is still ready to make him his main man and pay him a bumper wage at the Emirates.

Don Balon claim Wenger is ready to increase his salary and play him as the focal point in his side despite splashing out on Alexandre Lacazette in the summer.

Benzema signed a new deal at Madrid last season with a €1Billion release clause but Florentino Perez wants him out and will negotiate a deal.
