Go for an overnight climb up to Maharashtra's highest peak while also doing your bit for the environment
Winters in Mumbai might not have much to offer when it comes to teeth-chattering temperatures. But a trek up to the highest peak in Maharashtra early in the morning is sure to make for a thrilling break this season. And Goodwill Hiking, a two-day trek to the Kalsubai peak, nestled in the Sahyadris, is providing you with just that opportunity, while also helping you do your bit for the environment.
The descent will include a clean-up drive
The aim of the event is to reverse the environmental damage in the area via a clean-up drive en route. Additionally, it will aid an educational initiative for local villagers. The journey will be led by Kuntal Joisher, the first vegan to scale Mount Everest, in 2016. "We wish to set an example for other trekkers against littering," says Vikrant Chheda, founder of White Collar Hippie, which is organising the trek. The trek will begin at 2 am, after a bonfire and meet-up with local villagers at the base camp, with meals comprising organic fare from their kitchens. Talking about the educational initiative, Chheda adds, "A part of our earnings will go into an educational project in the village, which will help the kids get access to basic study material."

The descent will start after sunrise, with the participants undertaking further clean-up drives on their way back. So, sign up if you are feeling adventurous and charitable. And don't worry about obstacles you might encounter because where there is a hill, there is a way.
