Simmons had to wait over a year to make his debut in the NBA with injury ruling him out of action for the entirety of last season.

But the Australian is certainly making up for lost time with his performances early on in his 76ers career.

Simmons is currently averaging 18.7 points, 9.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists through only 20 games into the season.

His rare combination of size, speed and handles has made him a ready-made threat in the NBA and his 6”10 frame is unique at the point guard position.

His performances have already been likened to four-time MVP James, but the Cavaliers star was already aware of his potential when he attended James’ Skills Camp at 17 years old.

But the three-time NBA champion set the young star a big challenge to not only emulate his career in the game, but exceed it.

"You have an opportunity to be better than me," James told Simmons, via Sports Illustrated. "But you can't skip steps. You have to do the work."

However, Simmons took the advice on board and was thankful to James for taking the time to impart some of his wisdom onto him.

“Part of his greatness, is that he wants others to be just as great,” Simmons said.
