The district courts in Chhattisgarh will be linked via video conferencing facility in jails in Chhattisgarh soon, Home Minister Ramsevak Paikra informed reporters on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference here, Paikra said that with the video conference linking of district courts with jails, court proceedings in many cases of under trials could be held from jails, he said.
The Home Minister said that the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has already commenced work for providing leased line in nine district courts and eight jails in the State.
Similarly, leased line would be provided in another 11 district courts and nine jails in the second phase, Paikra said.
He said that facilities to promote skill development of convicts had been provided in 15 jails of the State. Till now 2,316 convicts had been trained in various trades, Paikra said.
The Government expects to make the State entirely insurgency-free by 2022, he said.
The Government is also constructing 10,000 homes for police staff. Currently 6168 houses are under construction in the State at a cost of Rs 800 crore, Paikra said.
“Movement of people from other states is frequently going on and that was the reason for the increase in crime rate in the State”, he said.
Citing Government’s achievements in past 14 years of BJP rule, Paikra said the strength of the police force has almost doubled.
The number of police stations when the State for formed was 293 which has now increased to 453, he said.
At present the strength of police force is 75,453 as against the earlier sanctioned posts of only 22520, Paikra said.
The battalions of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force has been increased from 7 to 22, he informed.
Police Housing Corporation has constructed 4 SP offices, 18 police lines administrative buildings, 3 police control rooms, 11 battalion headquarters and 228 police stations, he informed.
For the security assistance of women, ‘One Stop Centres’ have been formed, Paikra said.
For assistance of senior citizens a separate Senior Citizen Cell has been formed, he added.
Power supply in 22 jails of the State is from renewable energy sources, Paikra said.
