SURAT: Uttar Pradesh (UP) Congress president Raj Babbar said BJP's massive win in the civic polls in UP could be result of a deep-rooted conspiracy by the saffron party.
Babbar, who was in the city to campaign for Congress for the upcoming assembly elections, told TOI, "I would not like to comment at this juncture. It looks like a part of a deep- rooted conspiracy by BJP."
"Uttar Pradesh's deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma proclaimed his party's victory as early as 10 am on Friday. How can one be so sure so early? Members of our party's many units in Uttar Pradesh are unwilling to believe these results."
Babbar said BJP wants to make its victory in UP civic polls a big issue in Gujarat. "But there is a very positive atmosphere for Congress in Gujarat. Traders, farmers and common people were badly hit by demonetisation and Goods and servie Tax (GST). How can they vote for BJP in the upcoming elections in the state?"
Babbar addressed a public meeting at Limbayat assembly constituency. He campaigned for Congress candidates in Majura, Choriyasi and Udhna constituencies.
