Anti-narcotic cell nabs Assam native in drug raid

PANAJI: The anti-narcotic cell (ANC) of Goa Police on Friday arrested a native of Guwahati, Assam for illegal possession of narcotic substances worth Rs 5.25 lakh.


ANC said that they received a tip-off that Debarun Chowdhry, 29, will be arriving at Anjuna to strike a deal with a prospective customer. Accordingly, the police constituted a team headed by sub inspector Ditendra Naik and laid a trap.


Police said that the accused was apprehended as soon as he arrived at the spot. After a search was conducted, Chowdhry was found to be in possession of 10 grams of suspected LSD liquid and 25 grams of suspected charas.


The case has been registered under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was produced before the judicial magistrate first class and has been remanded to four days police custody. Naik is further investigating the case
