‘Cooperate thru’ prayer and faith’, Pope tells Suhrawardy mass

DHAKA: Visiting Vatican Catholic Pope Francis called for cooperation through prayer and faith while addressing a mass prayer at Suhrawardy Udyan Friday (December 1).

Thousands of Catholics of Bangladesh Christian community attended the holy mass that was commenced at 10:00am.

“Many of you have come here from distant areas. You have attended here (the program), being propelled by your faith”, the Pope said while addressing the Christian devotees.

“Prayer is the foremost way to cooperate your priests through generosity. Never feel tired in praying for the priests. Cooperate through prayer and faith”, said the Pope.

The Pope also thanked the attendees for attending the prayer.

Pope Francis also ordained some 16 new priests at Suhrawardy Udyan.

Later in the day, the Pope will hold a meeting with Bishops of Bangladesh, at the garden of Arch Bishop's house. The Pope will deliver religious sermons there.

However, the Pope arrived here Thursday (November 30) on a three-day state visit, with glad tidings of peace and harmony.

Meanwhile, the pope paid rich tribute to the memories of martyrs of the great liberation war and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at the National Memorial in Savar and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32 respectively.

The Pope is scheduled to leave Dhaka at 5:00pm Saturday.

However, Pope Francis is the second Pope visiting Bangladesh. About 31 years ago, His Holiness Pope John Paul II officially visited Bangladesh, on November 19, 1986.
