Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the Brazilian's wage demands have unsettled Sergi Roberto who is in the process of negotiating his own new deal.

The Barca utility player feels he is undervalued and is not impressed by the £235k a week on offer to the Coutinho.

It is said he could leave if he fails to agree new terms, with Liverpool and Manchester United both possible destinations.

14:40: Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde was asked about Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho on Friday - here's what he said.

"The problem is we’ve been speaking about players for a long time who are not part of the club," he said. 

"There was a lot of talk during the close season.

"Right now, we can’t sign anybody, so let’s concentrate on what we’ve got now. 

"It’s damaging to us to discuss these things when the market is closed. 

"When we get to the market, I probably won’t want to discuss these things, either!

"At the moment, Coutinho is not one of my players. 

"I want to worry about my players and the game we have."

Martins won't sign in January - Marcotti

12:55: Liverpool could pursue Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins but it will not be in the January transfer window, says Gabriele Marcotti.

Marcotti does not believe signing a player in Martins’ position is a priority for Jurgen Klopp at the moment.

“Again I don’t think this is January,” he said of a potential deal on ESPN FC.

“I think right now, when you look at the Liverpool squad, I’m not sure it’s necessarily a priority either. So, again, in the short term, I would say miss.”

Messi knows Coutinho secret

12:18: Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been told top secret information about Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.

Spanish outlet Don Balon say the 30-year-old has now been told a top secret regarding Coutinho and one that plunges a move to Barcelona into uncertainty.

It is said he has learned the signing is currently blocked.

Liverpool made it clear in August that only a bid of around £160million would be considered for them to part with their star performer.

And Don Balon claim that, though that number has now dropped to around £120m, Barcelona are still not willing to match it.

Liverpool apparently are not willing to budge in the slightest and Barcelona may now need to look elsewhere if they are to bolster their squad.

But Lionel Messi thinks the deal may fail to go through next month.

Don Balon say the 30-year-old is concerned that Barcelona will give up on Coutinho given Liverpool's transfer demands.

The German midfielder is a free agent at the end of the season and he has been linked with a move to reigning Serie A champions Juventus.

When quizzed over whether he will be at Liverpool come the end of the season, Can said: “Why do you ask me this? 

“Really, I concentrate on this season and let my agent handle all the rest.”

On the subject of the dispute centering around money, Can added: “It is not about money, that’s all I can say.

“Yes I could (sign a pre-contract with another club next month), but tomorrow I could also sign for Liverpool. We’ll see.”

According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool will sell Coutinho for 145 million euros in January, and Barcelona have been informed that this is the asking price.

They claim Liverpool and Barcelona have been in discussion over the Brazilian for months and the Reds have now given the Catalan giants a fee they must meet in order for a January move to to be considered.
