900 students to receive degrees at Patna University convocation

PATNA: More than 900 boys and girls who passed their postgraduation examinations of 2016 from Patna University (PU) will receive their coveted degrees at the centenary annual convocation of the university to be held at Bapu Sabhagar of Samrat Ashok Convention Centre near Gandhi Maidan here on Sunday. The toppers of as many as 41 courses will be awarded gold medals at the convocation.

Goa governor Mridula Sinha will be the chief guest and Bihar governor Satya Pal Malik will preside the ceremony. Education minister Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma will be the guest of honour. PU vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh will award degrees to the scholars.

PU controller of examinations R K Mandal said the entire convocation ceremony would be conducted in Hindi. For the first time, degree recipients will be allowed to bring their guardians (one for each scholar) inside the convocation hall.


The scholars will receive their ceremonial gowns at Wheeler Senate House on Saturday. The scholars will perhaps receive their degrees in ceremonial gowns for the last time this year as the university has decided to introduce Indian dress for the scholars at the convocation from the next year. PU has also decided to award medals of pure gold to the toppers from the next convocation, said university sources.


New MMC principal assumes charge: PU political science department former head Shashi Sharma on Friday joined as the new principal of Magadh Mahila College (MMC). She was given a hearty reception by the teachers and students of the college.


Physics department head of MMC Mamta Deepak joined as the new head of PU physics department on Friday. The post had fallen vacant following the premature demise of Rohit Raman.
