Chelsea news: Antonio Conte is Real Madrid’s top choice to replace Zinedine Zidane

CHELSEA manager Antonio Conte is Real Madrid’s No1 choice to replace Zinedine Zidane, according to reports.

Zidane has come under pressure at Real Madrid despite winning the Champions League twice in as many years since his appointment in January 2016.

Los Blancos currently face a huge challenge to retain the La Liga title scooped last year, with Barcelona currently eight points clear of them at the top of the table.

Real have axed managers in the past regardless of their success - something Fabio Capello and Carlo Ancelotti can testify - and they may act out if Zidane fails to get them firing again.

And Spanish outlet Diario Gol say Chelsea boss Conte is wanted at the Bernabeu as the Frenchman’s replacement.

Conte’s own future is up in the air despite getting Chelsea’s Premier League campaign back on track.

The former Juventus coach has been tipped to return to the Italy setup for a second time, despite only leaving after the European Championships last year.

Reports have claimed that Conte’s Stamford Bridge future is far from secure with the Italian also clashing with Roman Abramovich over transfers back in the summer.

And Diario Gol say he may be the next Real manager should club president Florentino Perez get his way.

However, Conte is not the only man in the frame to take the reins over in the Spanish capital.

Los Blancos would also love to make Germany manager Joachim Low their next boss.

Low helped the country win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and next year’s tournament is thought to be crucial as to whether or not he remains in the role.

Meanwhile, journalist Raphael Honigstein thinks Zidane faces a fight to keep his job.

"Managers have been fired for far less misdemeanours than finishing eight points behind Barcelona. It’s unforgivable,” he said.

"Everything he’s done before will count for absolutely nothing if he doesn’t improve the league form."
