Players will not be allowed to vegetate: Min

Higher Education Minister of state Dhan Singh Rawat said that the youngsters with sporting talent living in the remote areas of the State would no longer be left to vegetate as he inaugurated the five- day district level Khel Mahakumbh-2017 in the high- altitude  Kandoliya ground on Thursday.

“The talent lurking in the youngsters of the hills would be showcased during the mega sporting event being organised across the State now. If their talents are a little honed they would prove their worth and turn pride of the State by winning medals in the national level sports events,” the Minister said, adding that the studies and sports should go hand in hand for the flourish of both.  

 Earlier, Rawat along with Pauri MLA Mukesh Koli and the district magistrate Sushil Kumar took the salute of the march past presented by the girls and boys in the age group of 10 to 14 years who are participating  in the Khel Mahakumbh organised by the state youth welfare and sports department. 

Rawat said that the education, sports and youth welfare departments should take initiatives to motivate the youngsters  to sports. “The state government is now mulling to  organise the state level sports  event in Ransi stadium in Pauri,” he said. He further said that the state government determined to make Uttarakhand a smoke- free  state, 76 LPG gas connections would be distributed among the villagers  of Naugaon on December 1. “Besides, Srinagar would be made a  cent percent literate constituency 2018. The state would be declared so  by 2019,” added Rawat.

Among others present during the inauguration of the sports event  were chief development officer Navneet Chimma, SDM Kishan Singh Negi, district youth welfare officer  Satyapal Negi, DEO Hareram Yadav and assistant sports director S K Sarki.
