The British tourist industry could get a potent mix due to the upcoming marriage of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry which is expected to garner ten of millions of pound in extra revenue.
The highly anticipated engagement was announced recently after the first meeting of the couple in London in July last year.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011 as mentioned by the experts was more than £100 million to business and brought more than 600,000 visitors in the capital to be a part of the pomp and splendor.
2016 saw a record number of foreign tourists visiting London and Bernard Donoghue, director of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, said that tourists from overseas – especially North America will show even more interest next spring.
He further said that the major reason visitors come to the UK is due to their history, heritage and pageantry while royalty is absolutely key to all of that which is why most of the American visitors are drawn to Britain .
This is was the first time an American actress would marry a prince after Grace Kelly , Prince Harry’s global popularity, Meghan Markle’s global fame as an actress, her being American, Britain being much more affordable than it was two years ago is creating a potent mix.
There was a 17 percent in the number of visitors from North America over the past year due to the pound value as compared to the US dollar.
The Royal Wedding in 2011 had an additional 40 percent of tourists from overseas. The accountancy firm PwC revealed that the wedding was worth £107 million added commercial benefits to the capital.
